Hey strangers, I am returning from my month long hiatus. I've been incredibly busy these past thirty some days and have made some serious life changes. The first and greatest being that I moved! Finally I am no longer submerged into a storm of homelessness when I leave my front door. I've upgraded in ambience and significantly decreased my cost of living by moving from central Pioneer Square to the quieter streets of the U-District. And I couldn't be happier. Not only does my new place have more space for Ophelia to run about, but I also happen to share it with the third most important in my life. I haven't had a roommate in a long time and I was nervous about how this would go but so far it's been a blissful month with my honey and we've made it home.
While we've been setting up shop I've also been updating some of my grandmothers old furniture to incorporate into this new space. The dresser was the biggest project, I had a vision in mind and have gotten it almost to where I wanted it (it never is exactly how you dreamt the first time around is it?)
This is it in it's previous state..My sister (bless) kind of did a half-assed paint job and we needed to sand it down almost completely to start fresh.
My mom found a recipe on Pintrest of how to give it a clay-like antique texture. It didn't turn out as exaggerated as we would've liked but it was still a fun experiment.
da-da-da-duhhhn. I wanted to make sure the color was very gender neutral. I love any shade of gray and I figured if we wanted to paint our walls gray or have the color on our bed or anything, I needed to have a color that compliments and doesn't clash too much with the cool hues. So I picked a grayish light blue color. I originally wanted something darker and in the future that's probably what I'll do but it looks beautiful with silver accents so for now I'm content.
I was very awkward during the entire painting process, and my mom did a wonderful job capturing that on camera. The creeper in the back is just my uncle, he managed to photobomb most of the pictures with me in them.
One drawer down, three to go!
The finished product. The drawers are still a little sticky and difficult to open and close but I'll sand them down some more and it should be fine. The knobs are from Anthropologie.
The mirror is from Ikea, of course.
Little trinkets on the surface. The tray was a lucky find at Goodwill, the jars also thrifted, and the little elephant ring holder from Urban Outfitters.
The next two pictures are just some random bits from the new apartment, I love the little details about this place. We still hope to paint the walls and add some artwork to them but its cozy and homey already. I've never lived with someone I was romantic with so this new experience is a little scary and we are definitely learning how to coexist. But we are also very similar in terms of cleanliness and how we want it to look around here. I'm so fortunate for that.
The coffee table was also sanded down and re-stained and finished. It looks so much richer now.
Tray from goodwill, coasters from Anthropologie, salt-water taffy from Cannon Beach, Oregon!
The only downside so far is that there is no air conditioning in this apartment. Some might argue that that's not really a necessity in Seattle but maybe you don't like to sleep in a zero degree environment like I do. This little ancient fan was a treasure that I found tucked away in my mom's closet.
Alright, that's really all I have for an update right now. Work is good, life is great, I miss my sister terribly. I'll be blogging more frequently now that I'm all settled in and especially since i have so many new clothes to share! I hit the jackpot at the new Goodwill on Capitol Hill that place is
D-A-N-G-E-R-O-U-S.
xx
